Manage Storage
DMT is a real-time compression and storage management system. It manages your storage by dynamically selecting the best compression system based on the type of storage being created or accessed. Data being stored or transmitted have different properties. So it is important that any compression system has the capability to adapt to the characteristics of the storage system and the type of communications.

DMT’s content aware system also selects the best CODEC for compression of the data in that storage system. DMT provides compression of up to 90% for online data, and an average of 50% for backup and archive data. Naturally, it cannot compress data that has already been compressed. DMT provides simple interfaces including file by file and directory compression as well as extensive APIs for applications.

Manage Access
Data has different access requirements based on the properties of the way in which the data is being stored. Online data is usually accessed at the record or block level, while backup data is usually accessed at file level. Archival data is typically stored offline and/or offsite and accessed at the file or directory level. Communications and transfer times are critical.

DMT manages access by providing block level access to compressed data. DMT can optimize real-time access to data within compressed files. DMT can achieve near native data transfer speeds, since the file does not need to be completely decompressed to access the internal data. DMT provides improved cloud, network and local compressed transfers. DMT can provide file by file and directory compression for backup systems. Individual blocks within the compressed data can still be accessed. DMT provides both compression and message CODECs allowing communications to be optimized for small and large messages. DMT can provide search and retrieval of archival data. Offline and offsite access is improved since data can be retrieved at block level, as well as file and directory level.

Manage Performance
Performance of storage systems is increasingly important as the size of the data grows. For online systems, retrieval and update speed is important; real-time response is critical. In backup systems, update speed is less critical, but retrieval speed is still important. While archival data is typically stored offline or offsite, the communications and transfer times can be unmanageable.

DMT accelerates the performance of applications that no longer have to decompress the files to access the data within them. By tuning block sizes to the data type, it minimizes the time to access random data within these files. DMT provides a fully integrated data caching system to improve response times for access to frequently used data, as well as recently accessed data.

And DMT is scalable from large storage systems through to embedded systems. In embedded systems, performance can be tuned for both memory usage and device speed optimization. Finally, DMT provides the analysis data needed to tune the systems. From compression rates, through access speed and caching performance, DMT provides detailed figures to allow the user to select the best configuration.
