WHAT IS ADVANCED COMPRESSION?
WindSpring’s patented advanced compression technology, know as data miniaturization technology (DMT ™) reduces data through a patented process into a micro data format (MDF ™). The process reduces files sizes and allows full access and manipulation of the application data in MDF data.
HOW DOES ADVANCED COMPRESSION COMPARE TO CURRENT COMPRESSION SOLUTIONS?
Unlike existing compression technology, MDF data does not need to be returned to its original size, eliminating the need for storage space to accommodate a double footprint. Since the data remains as MDF data, access to the data is improved as well. MDF also allows full access including, search, edit and update capabilities. With POI and mapping data growing rapidly, the ability to edit and update without replacing an entire database is a critical feature.
HOW DOES ADVANCED COMPRESSION AFFECT EXISTING MAP DATA?
With road networks changing from 10-15% annually and up to as much as 40% in high-growth areas, data quickly goes out of date. In addition, data is often subjected to temporary but significant changes that require real-time updates. Advanced compression allows data to be maintained through an incremental update process with minimal user impact for maximum relevance and reliability.
HOW DOES WINDSPRING FIT IN THE NAVIGATION INDUSTRY?
WindSpring’s technology provides a connection for map makers and map engines to develop new services and revenue streams. Easily integrated by device manufacturers, WindSpring’s software facilitates applications across the entire industry.
WHERE DOES WINDSPRING THINK THE NAVIGATION SOLUTIONS AND SERVICES ARE HEADED?
Mapping data will continue to grow and consumers will place increasing demands for real-time and relevant services. As the industry moves to applications that enable consumers to locate places, people and products whenever they want, technology must be available to support the data requirements for these solutions and services.
