"Consumers should be wary of in-car and standalone GPS navigation systems. In a recent TeleNav Web poll approximately 50 percent of respondents with personal navigation devices (PNDs) stated that their navigation systems have provided incorrect directions or outdated maps. Unlike GPS applications on mobile phones and smartphones, handheld navigation systems are not updated on a regular basis.”

Incremental Map Update

WindSpring’s patented data miniaturization technology (DMT™) enables incremental updates to data stored in the micro data format (MDF™). Incremental updates avoid the need to completely replace large volumes of data and allows data to be either edited in place to support real-time data changes or updated in place for the delivery of scheduled data changes.

MOBILE NAVIGATION UPDATES

DMT has been tested and applied successfully for a large range of navigation data formats. The technology permanently reduces the size of navigation and Point-of-Interest (POI) databases, maintains full access for editing the data, and increases storage capacity and file transmission speed without the need to increase storage and hardware capacity and cost.
